The days are so crazy now I have to truly pause to recall what it was like to have the one little peanut pictures on the right below. The entire vacation she was in the kitchen cabinets searching for that cheese grater. Around this time, she also insisted on sleeping with her blue plastic rake, a beach toy. I was preg w Hilly and working and missed Pooh Bear TERRIBLY every moment of my day (ask Jim or Gma D who had to listen to my tears on the reg). I would drive well passed the speed limit and race to her daycare and when I finally had her in my arms I felt a 2k pound weight lifted off my shoulders.
I stressed the idea of her not being an only child anymore. I felt guilty! Of course, I didn't realize the door prize would be a sweet Hillary, who would be her sister's very best friend. But I hoped! And while they fight like mortal enemies, they recover from those fights in a way that only siblings do. My own fights with my brothers are now something we laugh about. For her 6th, Jack requested both HAC grilled cheese and Grotto's. The girl's got taste! It was a busy Thursday w Hill's swim lesson and then gymnastics. Her entire lunch period (K, grades 1 and 2) sang happy birthday to her. She received cards and love from her family and friends. And she opened Shopkins and Fancy Nancy chapter books and Frozen knee and elbow pads she picked out at Target w Dada (yet... She doesn't want a new bike....wtf)
Anyway. She loves the story about how so many people were waiting for her arrival 6 years ago. In the hospital waiting room, at their homes- wherever they were. She loves how when I texted Uncle Brian that she was born his response was "Finally." Jack is special.
She has a sense of humor beyond her years. She is a perfectionist in her school work and art work and gymnastics and dance and everything she undertakes. She is uncomfortably observant and has almost a perfect memory and excellent attention to detail.
To keep it real- the girl can be super moody, is a picky eater (like Uncle Mickey), and can be sneaky. But.... What first born isn't?
This girl feels loved by so many friends and family and loves them and remembers them daily in return. She is easy to cry happy tears and empathetic tears and it amazes me every time that this child can feel so deeply for others' problems and struggles and happiness that she actually cries for them! Remember the time I told her I always wanted a sister and never had one? I never even particularly cared that I didn't have a sister and was just saying that to make a point that she needs to appreciate Hillary. She burst into tears for me and the sister I never had! She weeps at the Velveteen Rabbit and country songs and Inside Out and every other remotely emotional thing. This girl has a big heart and a sensitive, yet tough, soul.
I love you, sweet Pooh Bear. I can't wait to see what age 6 has in store!
