Saturday we had soccer. I will get a few pics to upload but it was basically hilly on the field like "umm... I hate soccer" and then I bribed her w a treat and she got in there and kicked the ball but she didn't really know what to do with it. At one point I cheered for her and she looked up at me and gave me the stink eye. Afterwards she said she liked it. I asked Jim if he thought she was getting anything out of this experience. He said an intro to a team sport. Meanwhile Jackie is dribbling the ball like crazy and loving it. I asked if she wanted to play soccer. She said absolutely not. Okay then!
Saturday my mom came over and jim and I did something we have done since before I was pregnant w Jackie. We went to a music and beer festival. It was so much fun. And it was filled w old people like us. We went for his best friend's birthday. The best friends, below:
Meanwhile the kids and grandma were hanging out. Rumor has it they went to playground for 1.5 hours, ate a frozen pizza and cheesesticks and had a blast. Jack woke up and first thing she said was "when is grandma coming back?" Ben's first sentence was "I miss grandma." But I couldn't stay to catch up bc my friend Cara and I had an 8k race to run at a nearby winery. Pretty much the last thing I felt like doing Sunday morning at 9, but also something that I knew I would not regret. afterwards I felt great.
So great that I took the kids to the Faerie Fest. I actually was exhausted and it was humid and hot and not shady. I promised to make a play date w Hilly's friend Abigail from ballet camp. She's new in the area and her mom is an attorney etc so we wanted to get the gals together. We also ran into P and crew which was awesome as usual. We didn't even plan to meet them. The kids were MISERABLE.
So we fed them ice cream.
And this turtle at the "petting" zoo- was African something or other and he was dying to escape. Jack asked if he bites and this teenager manning the animals said in a southern accent "if you stick your fingers in there, he might bite them off." Okay. So then why the hell is he at a petting zoo at the Faerie Festival? Slim picking I guess.
Below are Hill and Abigail.
So Abigail left and then Payton and crew left but things started to cool down and the crowd thinned out so I took the girls (Ben was w dada) back into the fair to complete some crafts and get them dinner.
Still miserable but less so. They made wands, played a pirate game and watched a ballet.
Monday morning.
