I didn't really talk about her upcoming first day until last night when I casually mentioned that today she would be seeing both Ms Wanda AND Ms Alicia (swimming). She was quiet for a minute before saying, 'Who will be there?' I said, 'Where?' She said, 'With Ms. Wanda. You and Hilly?' And I said, 'We are going with you and then we are going to run to the store very quickly and you will play with Ms. Wanda and the kids and then we'll come back to get you.' She paused and said, 'I want to go to Target.' A girl of my own heart!! Me too, my friend.
Anyway, I let her take her dee-dee to school and we ran around like crazy trying to get last minute school stuff organized, feed children and animals, and we were off.
The room was like the 7th realm of hell. There were children screaming bloody murder for their parents and there was seemingly no supervision anywhere to be found because the 2 teachers were busy with one kid crying for his mom and having to pee at the same time and the other one was trying to hold this little kid back from storming out the door to his mother. Then they closed the door and there were children literally banging on the door to get out as they cried. The scene could not have been more dramatic. This one girl just angrily was screaming, "I want my mommy!" I ushered Jax over to the only sane little girl in the class named Abby and introduced Jackie to her. Then this little kid with glasses (I LOVE little kids in glasses, btw) steals a toy right from Abby's hands. So without thinking, I took the toy from him and said, 'That is not nice. She was playing with that toy. Do not take toys from other children.' The real reason I disciplined him was bc I didn't want him to make Abby cry. Abby was the only child- other than him- not crying in the whole room. What a jerk. Eventually I stood up to leave and Jackie had tears streaming down her cheeks. It was so sad, but I knew that once her classmates CHILLED OUT she would love it.
Anyway, I left after I saw that the teachers were back in control and handed Jax off to Ms Anne, the asst teacher. I stood outside the room peeking in for a second and saw Jax already stopped crying. There was a mother bawling her eyes out in the hallway. Not me. Real pain? Try dropping your THREE MONTH OLD off at daycare for NINE HOURS A DAY. That, friends, is an occasion worthy of tears.
So Hillers and I flew solo for a few hours, running errands.
We walked in the building to pick up Jax and they were returning from the playground. She was first in line behind the teacher and happily walking along. She saw me and could not wait to tell me about her day. She told me that at snack she ate carrots, bananas and crackers and that her friend Abby fell and hit her head (????) and that at one point Ms. Wanda said, 'No Toys!' But she seemed happy about this, so maybe it was a joke? She told me she cried a little bit and did a brief imitation of herself crying and then said she was happy playing.
Oh, and this is long but I want to document this anyway. I ordered her a super cute Pottery Barn monogrammed book bag but it didn't come yet bc it's back ordered. So I thought "Whatever, we'll use Jim's law school bookbag for the first week or so." All the kids have these cute bookbags and I'm like, 'Ugh... I swear we have a better one coming.' Not Jackie- she fell in LOVE with Jim's ratty old blue/gray bookbag and wanted to carry it with her the whole day. I think bc she knew it was her Daddy's. Cute, but..... uhhhhh Haha
